Overview:
Emulating its predecessor Night Watch with its state-of-the-art visuals, Day Watch finds hero Anton Gorodetsky (Konstantin Khabensky) firmly embroiled in the battle between the supernatural forces of Light and Darkness when he is framed for murder. The two sides each have a "Great Other" - one is Svetlana, the love of Anton's life, while the other is his embittered son Yegor, who has aligned himself with the forces of evil. A clash between these powerful beings could bring an end to the centuries-long truce between the Night Watch and the Day Watch, and cause the end of the world. Director Timur Bekmambetov populates his movie with some quite breathtaking stunts and special effects (a sports car careering up the side of a multistorey building is a particular stand-out). There's also some much needed humour when Anton is forced into a female body-swap to escape his dark pursuers and ends up having a girlie night-in with Svetlana. But it's the kinetic action and dizzying set pieces that enthral, making up for the somewhat dense narrative.
