In this film noir thriller, escaped convict Humphrey Bogart changes his appearance with plastic surgery and hides out with artist Lauren Bacall while he attempts to prove he is innocent of his wife's murder. The third Bogart/Bacall outing, written and directed by Delmer Daves and featuring an excellent supporting performance from Tom D'Andrea and an over-the-top one by Agnes Moorehead, is slick and efficient, yet somewhat disappointing. The first 40 minutes or so are ingeniously photographed from Bogart's subjective point of view, tantalisingly keeping us waiting for the star's appearance. Otherwise, though, the movie is a low-key affair.
