"There are two sides to every love story."

- Studio: Prophecy Pictures Ltd.
- Duration: 120 Mins
|
Overview:
Given the title, it's not surprising this romantic yarn is pretty heavy on chitchat. Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart meet at a wedding, and over the course of the day - and night - their shared history is revealed. Indie film-maker Hans Canosa isn't interested in a rosy-hued picture of soulmates passing in the night, as much as a mournful dissection of the relationship between two people who were once in love. At times the jaded outlook (especially of Bonham Carter's 30-something doctor's wife) is a little oppressive, but thankfully there are plenty of moments of wit and whimsy to balance things out. It's easy to draw comparisons with Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise, except that there are few pleasantries and pop culture musings exchanged between the couple here. Canosa's use of split screen offers some revealing contrasts between past and present, but employing the technique for every scene becomes rather wearisome. In the end, it's the sparkling rapport between the lovers that carries you through the ups and downs.
