This Emmy and Golden Globe-winning drama is a laudable attempt to expose the cold calculation that went into the planning of the Final Solution. Based on the one surviving copy of minutes of a meeting chaired by SS security chief Reinhard Heydrich, it's an open indictment of the sheer evil that underpinned the Nazi regime. But while every effort has been made to avoid caricature in Frank Pierson's admirably dispassionate production, the performances do occasionally seem mannered. The distinction is best seen in the contrast between Kenneth Branagh's charismatic Heydrich and Stanley Tucci's display of ruthless vanity as Adolph Eichmann.
