After strolling lazily through The Golden Child and Beverly Hills Cop II, Eddie Murphy teamed up once again with his Trading Places director John Landis for this comedy, which at least requires him to do more than just chuckle. Murphy plays the pampered African prince who rebels against his father (James Earl Jones) and comes to America, with sidekick Arsenio Hall in tow, to find a wife. Landis aims for a 1930s-style but, unfortunately, is hampered by a script that isn't as clever as it thinks it is and it's left to Murphy (who, courtesy of wonderful make-up, also delivers some very funny cameos) to carry the picture. The stellar supporting cast includes a pre-stardom Cuba Gooding Jr and Samuel L Jackson, although the biggest laugh is generated by the appearance of screen veterans Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy, reprising their Trading Places roles.

An African prince decides it’s time for him to find a princess... and his mission leads him and his most loyal friend to Queens, New York. In disguise as an impoverished immigrant, the pampered prince quickly finds himself a new job, new friends, new digs, new enemies and lots of trouble.
