Overview:
This manic, Miami-based ensemble comedy from director Barry Sonnenfeld faced post-11 September release problems in the US because of its climactic satirising of poor airport security, which allows a nuclear bomb to pass through unimpeded onto a plane. Although this may give an impression of an edgier story than the film-maker's Get Shorty or Men in Black movies, this is as just as lightweight and distanced from reality. In fact, there's barely enough plot to cover the short running time of this crime farce, as chance, coincidence and an explosive suitcase bring together a dozen characters. Tim Allen and Rene Russo are the nominal stars, but this appealing partnership is hampered by puerile plotting and a surplus of one-dimensional, over-acting supporting players. There's the odd bristling dialogue exchange (mostly involving tough guy Dennis Farina, imitating his Get Shorty role) and enthusiasm to spare. Entertainment, however, is in shorter supply.
