A brother and sister adopt an orphan, and end up with a precocious, freckle-faced girl. While the brother takes an instant liking to the cheerful new arrival, his sister is less than pleased, having wanted a boy. Her disappointment is further compounded when the youngster is wooed by a boy from a family she dislikes. Drama, based on Lucy Maude Montgomery's novel, with Anne Shirley and Tom Brown.

Anne Shirley, an orphan, is fostered by farmer Matthew Cuthbert and his sister Marilla, who were expecting a boy to be sent them to help with their farm work. They accept Anne, who quickly endears herself to them and to the local villagers.
