This flimsy, oversentimental sports fantasy was a hit in the US, but the baseball theme limited its appeal in the UK and it went straight to video. Quite right, too, because it wastes the talents of such respected performers as Danny Glover, Christopher Lloyd and Brenda Fricker. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is the nominal star, playing a baseball fan who seeks divine intervention to win back his estranged father (Dermot Mulroney) and help his struggling team end its losing streak. It's sickly sweet, but undemanding children may be entertained.

Roger is a foster child whose irresponsible father promises to get his act together when Roger's favourite baseball team, the California Angels, wins the pennant. The problem is that the Angels are in last place, so Roger prays for help to turn the team around. Sure enough, his prayers are answered in the form of angel Al.
