"Caught in a merry marital mix-up!"
- Director: David Swift
- Genre: Kids & Family, Romance, Classics, Comedy,
- Studio: Walt Disney Productions
- Subtitled | Widescreen | Duration: 150 Mins
Overview:
The idea was recycled in 1998 by Disney, but this is the studio's popular original. Hayley Mills takes the dual role of twins trying to reunite their divorced parents, played by Maureen O'Hara and an undercast, and seemingly uncomfortable, Brian Keith. It's hard to watch now - particularly the scenes featuring the Sherman brothers' loathsome hit record Let's Get Together - and, like many Disney films of the period, it's ridiculously overlong, drawn out by the interminable section at a summer camp. But David Swift's direction is adroit - he also guided Mills through her Oscar-winning performance in the previous year's Pollyanna - and Lucien Ballard's Technicolor photography is particularly fetching. It's just hard to imagine who'd like this today.
