"A tempestuous cattle drive across 1000 dangerous miles of Texas landscape."
- Director: Richard Michaels
- Genre: Western
- Studio: Unspecified
- Duration: 120 Mins
Some movies shouldn't be remade, but TV has an insatiable appetite, so it might have seemed a good idea at the time to rework Howard Hawks's majestic western for the small screen. The trouble is, without Hawks, his marvellous cast headed by John Wayne and Montgomery Clift and that Dimitri Tiomkin score, there's not much substance to this westernisation of Mutiny on the Bounty. Still, here's the same saddle-sore tale in colour, and to keep you watching the cast is peppered with veteran cowboys. James Arness, himself once John Wayne's protégé, takes the Wayne role and does well by it, but Bruce Boxleitner is inadequate as Matthew Garth. It's the veteran supporting cast that bears watching, so tune in and see Ty Hardin, Robert Horton and Guy Madison, the star of The Charge at Feather River and The Command. There's not much else to enjoy.
