Donna Mills attempts to ditch her glamorous Knots Landing image for this worthy, occasionally sentimental, drama about alcoholism, made in the same year as the similar Meg Ryan movie When a Man Loves a Woman. Mills stars as a successful career woman and wife whose life begins to fall apart when she develops an unhealthy interest in the demon drink. Daniel J Travanti plays her caring, sharing husband who tries to lead her back on to the straight and narrow. There's also good support from Eileen Brennan, but at the end of the day it's Mills's movie - her company had a hand in the production - and director Rod Hardy wisely gives her full rein.

Kate (Donna Mills) is an alcoholic--and, as is often the case, she is in full denial regarding her illness. Only when she is threatened with mass desertion by her husband, children and best friend does the sullen Kate agree to seek out treatment.
